05/03/2026  Latest Situation of Red Tide in Brunei Darussalam's Waters

Following a media statement dated 28th February 2026, the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Brunei Darussalam has been actively implementing continuous monitoring to determine the condition of the red tide in the waters of Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with relevant agencies, namely the Joint Force of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Marine Police, Royal Brunei Police Force. As a result of continuous monitoring from the air and through laboratory analysis of samples from the country's waters, the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, hereby informed that the offshore waters and coastal areas in the country have been confirmed to be free from the occurrence of red tide.

 

In this regard, the Department is pleased to announce that species previously affected by the red tides incident, namely small fish such as aur-aur, tamban, basong-basong, pusu, kuasi, bubuk and shellfish, are now safe to eat. With this, the temporary ban on the fishing, selling and eating of all these species has been lifted. The Department will continue to regularly monitor the condition of the country's waters to ensure that the safety of seafood and the sustainability of the marine ecosystem are always maintained.
